A Qualitative Study on Client Violence Experience of Mental Health Social Worker in Mental Hospital

Abstract
In this study, a qualitative research was conducted to understand the experiences of mental health social workers as violence victims caused by their clients thoroughly from the various aspects. Focus group interviews were performed to eight level-1 mental health social workers with longer than 5-year field experiences. The results are classified into 4 subjects, 15 sub-subjects, and 68 meaningful concepts. Four themes are ¡®severe violence and suffering¡¯, ¡®deepening heartache after violence¡¯, ¡®escape from violence¡¯, ¡®aftereffects and growth.¡¯ The results imply that the practical and policy-based measures such as strengthening education and coping with client violence of mental health social worker, practical support for post-treatment, building institutional device, and strengthening legal foundation.
